Let me take you back to January of 2018. That’s when we were first told…we need to get a Real ID by October of 2020. And then the pandemic happened…and they kept postponing it and postponing it. Well, it’s been 7 years, but it’s here. The final Real ID deadline is May 7, 2025. After that, you'll need a Real ID to get on an airplane!
So to get one, you’ll need proof of identity, a Social Security number, and two documents showing your California residency.
And our state apparently is leading the way in procrastination!
The DMV has issued 18 ½ million so far, but there are 27 million licensed drivers in the state, that leaves a lot of people scrambling.
While you can use a passport for domestic travel, the TSA says relying on one isn't the best idea—you don’t want to lose it or have it damaged while flying.
Bottom line? If you haven’t gotten your Real ID yet, now’s the time to take care of it!
