These Two Dads Celebrated Pride With Their Own Mini Parade

Chicago Area Drag Queens March In Protest Over Police Killing Of George Floyd, Tony McDade and Breonna Taylor

Obviously things are very different than they were this time last year. And with June being Pride Month, but having most of the country still in quarantine (or seeing spikes in COVID-19 cases), plans on celebrating Pride have had to be majorly altered.

For one family, though, that did *not* mean skipping out on a Pride parade this year. Instead, two dads decided to make their own parade for their kids. And I have to give them a round of applause for making sure they still found a way they wanted to celebrate Pride month.

The two dads, Ricky Shankar and Nic Marcheso held their own mini-Pride celebration in their Seattle neighborhood due to not being able to have the same big parade as most years. Of course the parade featured their two children, daughter London, 4, and son Roman, 1.

"Every year we go out to Pride and do the family stuff and it helps," Ricky told "Good Morning America." "We didn’t want this year to go by without celebrating something."

So they took matters into their own hands, put the kids in a wagon and put on their own parade featuring colorful accessories like inflatable toys and fans.

Neighbors who saw them passing came out to cheer them on and chant "happy pride" with the family.

The couple says they also spent time this last weekend explaining to their kids - thought perhaps only the 4-year-old could really understand - about the importance of Pride and the other protests for Black Lives Matter going on around the world right now. The couple plans to continue having those conversations with their kids as they come up.

And THAT is some great parenting. Plus, a mini-parade sounds like a LOT of fun!! Especially for those of us with young kids in quarantine.

How are YOU celebrating Pride this year?? Yap me below to let me know!
