Get Ready For 'BroLates' This Summer!

What is the connection between a music star who has won two Grammy awards, a rom-com heartthrob, and a five-time Ballon d'Or winner? They are all enthusiasts of Pilates, the newest craze in men's fitness.

It appears that the advantages are now being realized by athletes, celebrities, and average guys alike. In fact, so many men are switching from dumbbells to reformer beds that the instructors have coined the hip term "bro-lates" to describe them.

Most guys are brought in by their girlfriends or buddies. They hear about how great it is and decide to give it a try. Once they do, they’re hooked.” says Laura Quinn the head Pilates trainer at celebrity gym Alo Studios. Pilates is the greatest workout right now for, well, everyone, as seen by Quinn's client list, which includes celebrities and sports figures like Justin Bieber, actor Glen Powell, and a plethora of NRL greats.

And for those who believe that Pilates is just a fancy way to stretch, they ought to think again. This full-body exercise program focuses on the stabilizing muscles that are difficult to reach. Quinn says, "I've had huge NFL guys in my class; they're big guys physically, and they're always amazed at how different the workout is from their regular strength training."

Quinn’s sought-after classes have become a magnet for men who are looking to boost their performance, whether that’s on the field, stage or screen. I teach everyone, from NBA stars to singers and actors, and then just regular businessmen. And every single one of them comes back to me for more after their first class.

it’s easy to see why pilates is popular! Pilates offers a unique blend of resistance training, flexibility and core strength, which prompts a whole laundry list of physical benefits. With Pilates, your posture improves, you stand taller and you’re less likely to get injured. Plus, the stretch at the end of the class makes you more flexible, which most guys are now realising is an important element to their overall fitness.
