Trying to switch up your cardio routine at the gym? You might want to try walking backwards on the treadmill!
The trend has gone viral on TikTok in recent weeks and according to multiple trainers it can actually help strengthen your calves and work on your balance.
#Walkbackwards has over five million views on the social media app and apparently you really only need to do it for at least five minutes to reap the benefits from it. Normally it is an exercise physical therapists use to help people strengthen their legs, but you can do it in your own time.
If you want to give the trend a try, experts suggest starting your treadmill walk at 0.6 miles per hour, and then slowly increase as you become more stable and confident with the movement.
You can see example of a backwards walk below, but what will be interesting is if people start doing this in public on the sidewalk!
