Survey: What Couples Fight About Ahead Of Holidays

This is supposed to be the season to be jolly, but with less than three weeks to go until Christmas, some people aren’t spreading holiday cheer. The holidays can be busy and stressful and sometimes we take that stress out on the people we love most. We want it to be the most wonderful time of the year, but between juggling our work load, kids’ school, buying and wrapping gifts, and sending out holiday cards, it can feel far from merry.

And when the to-do list feels like it’s never going to end or you get a message that the perfect gift you bought is now back-ordered and won’t be here on time, it’s easy to unleash on your loving partner. They probably don’t deserve it, but it happens to the best of us. A new survey from Nine.com reveals the biggest things couples argue about in the lead up to Christmas and coming in at number one is one you’d probably expect… finances.

Money worries are the instigator for fights for 13% of respondents and tied with that is a surprising one, disagreements about what gifts to buy each other. Coming in just under those (at 12%) is personal commitments to family and friends during the holidays, followed by fights about where to spend Christmas Day (with 11%.) And a small group of people (4%) say their pre-holiday arguments are over where to spend their end of the year time off. The largest group of those who responded (34%) don’t have partners, so they don’t have to worry about bickering with them during the holidays at all.
