Why You Should Never Post Pictures of Your Keys Online!

It’s no secret that folks share way too much on social media, but some people may not realize that they are putting themselves in danger with one simple picture.

After people buy a new home, many are likely to mark the occasion by posting photos of their keys online, but TikToker named Cathy Pedrayes recently warned folks against the practice. In her post, which has been viewed over eight million times, she says doing so is dangerous because there are “computer programs that allow you to recreate" keys with a photo. She adds, “So treat your keys like you would any private information, and don't post [them]."

One such way those keys can be made is through the app KeyMe, which does say it can make duplicate keys from a photo, although recent comments in the app store note that function is no longer available. But it’s not just apps that can allow folks to duplicate keys, with Pedrayes sharing another TikTok video of a user doing just that with a photo, a quarter for scale, and some havy duty plastic.Check it out to the right.
