Did you know the average wedding costs about $34-grand? That’s right. To declare your everlasting love you’ll need to fork over the same price you’d pay for the average four-door sedan.
But here’s the thing, our generation isn’t into that life. Get ready to see the headlines “Millennials are killing the wedding industry” because a new study says a growing number of us are turning to donations to fund holy matrimony.
According to survey data, 15% of couples asked for donations to fund their wedding and one in five couples asked for donations to a honeymoon fund. And before all you get hot and bothered, it turns out people are pretty okay with being asked to pre-pay for their plate. A total of 30% of wedding guests say they’ve donated to wedding or honeymoon funds.
This is a big switch since traditionally it’s been the bride’s family that “donated” the wedding. But according to this survey, less than 20% of the weddings were paid for exclusively by the bride's family last year. Listen, do you hear that? That’s the sound of every Dad with a young daughter breathing a sigh of relief.
It seems the biggest trend for paying off weddings nowadays is “going Dutch.” Nearly half the newlyweds surveyed said they paid for their ceremony and reception themselves and then split the debt evenly.Pretty amazing that they’re still able to smile in all the photos right?
But as far as other traditions go, millennials aren’t shaking things up too much. The majority of us say yes to having a wedding cake and 62% of brides are still wearing white. The only things we’re really saying bye to are receiving lines and assigned seating.Although, maybe we should be offering “Diamond Level Wedding Seating” to anyone donating big bucks!
