Is your New Year’s resolution to get more people to swipe right? A great place to start could be by refreshing your bio.
And since you’re competing with thousands of other singles, you’re going to want to try and stand out from the crowd. So what better place to start than by knowing exactly what thecrowdwas doing in 2019! Luckily for you, Tinder released its yearly report about everything that was trending this year. Here are some of the highlights:
- Emojis. It was a big year for facepalming. The emoji with the little guy thrusting their hand into their face had a 41% increase in Tinder bios this year. Interestingly, the ok hand sign emoji was included in about a fifth of 18-25-year-olds bios. But didn’t that just get added to the list of hate symbols in 2019? What the hell Gen Z!
- Female Star Power. Billie Eilish and Lizzo were amongst the most mentioned celebs in Tinder bios. Captain Marvel and Elizabeth Warren also got plenty of shoutouts as well.Wait, is Captain Marvel running as a Democrat as well? It’s hard to keep track.
- Foodie trends.Millennials stayed true to the stereotype this year and gave avocado toast the most mentions in their descriptions.Sorry White Claw, maybe next year.
- Trending topics. While millennials filled their bios with talking about places they’ve visited, and three times more likely to talk about vacations, Gen Z Tinderellas were all about mentioning whatever causes or missions they stand for. Phrases like “climate change,” “social justice,” “the environment” and “gun control” topped the list of what Gen Z care about.
- Getting Political.Even though you wouldn’t guess it by some millennials Twitter feeds, our generation tended to mention going to the gym and marathons more than politics. Gen Z swipers were much more likely to mention politics.Guess they’re more into knowing which side of the aisle someone is on before meeting up.
