These Awkward Moments Make Relationships Stronger, Seriously

Couples try to avoid cringeworthy situations with their partners, but as uncomfortable as they can be, they can be a good thing. Depending on how you deal with them, relationship experts say they could even make your relationship stronger. These awkward moments may feel terrible, but they can make couples closer.

  • Talking about an ex- Discussing past relationships can help because you can both talk about what went wrong and how to keep that from happening in your current relationship.
  • Eating messy foods- Some people try to avoid this, especially in the early days of dating, but getting messy with pizza or ribs can provide an opportunity to laugh together and show that nobody’s perfect, especially with eating.
  • Talking about your sex life- A lot of awkward things can happen during sex, but owning the moment and being able to laugh it off can bring you closer to each other and even make your bond stronger.
  • Letting them witness your family dynamics- We all have difficult people in our families and letting your partner see those disagreements or uncomfortable situations with relatives can help them get to know you on a whole new level and understand where you’re coming from.
  • Exchanging gifts- Deciding what to get each other early on in a relationship can cause anxiety, but the more you get to know each other, the less awkward it gets.
  • Letting them see your messy apartment- Sometimes you don’t have a chance to clean up before your partner comes over, but it’s okay if your place is disorganized and messy. Letting your partner see that and knowing they love you anyway shows they’re willing to take the good with the bad.
  • Witnessing bodily functions- Farting in front of your S.O. for the first time can be really awkward for some people, but it’s a part of life and getting through it and laughing it off can make you feel more comfortable around each other.
