Watch Los Angeles Neighborhood Cheer On First Responders

US-ENTERTAINMENT-HOLLYWOOD SIGN-MAKEOVER

Here in Los Angeles, we've been in quarantine, or practicing social distancing, for a little over 2 weeks now (for most people.)

But something interesting we've seen is that people are coming together more than EVER at this time, even though we can't psychically be together, we are in spirit. I've seen more people helping out their neighbors, supporting each other online, having virtual happy hour to check in with friends near and far... and now, an entire neighborhood in Los Angeles has caught onto a trend from around the world: cheering for first responders at night.

Silver Lake, a neighborhood in Los Angeles, made news this week when people from the homes and apartments in the area shared videos of neighbors cheering and celebrating all the first responders and grocery store workers together.

While staying 6 feet apart, of course, the residents of Silver Lake organized the celebration of those working the hardest right now on the Nextdoor app. They decided that at 8pm they would all step outside onto their balconies, front yards, or just open up their windows and cheer or bang pots together to celebrate local health care workers and grocery store workers, who are working hard and putting themselves on the front lines of the coronavirus outbreak.

Watch the amazing video here!

I'm thinking about trying to organize something similar in my neighborhood since this was done through the Nextdoor app! We use that app anyway, and I like pretty close to a grocery store, so it would be great to be able to cheer for them from a safe social distance.

We've seen similar videos to this popping up in cities like Amsterdam, New York, Italy and Portland. Let's keep it up everyone! We owe so much to those people who are working in hospitals, grocery stores, and other essential workers. THANK YOU for all you do!
