Taylor Swift Covers Harper's BAZAAR And Talks About Songwriting Process

When you think of Taylor Swift, these days you think of super stardom and her life as a pop artist... even though she started out, years ago, as a young tween writing country songs in her bedroom.

In a recent cover story with Harper's BAZAAR, Taylor opened up about life as a songwriter today, in her world that is so different than the one she lived as a 12 year old.

In the August issue of the magazine, Taylor channels English model Pattie Boyd. The two also pose together in the issue after Taylor admitted she was "inspired and intrigued" after reading Pattie's memoir Wonderful Tonight

"I wanted to ask her about her life, sit down and talk about all things 1960's London, Beatlemania, and how it felt to be on the other side of songwriting: the side of the muse. So that's what we did, and she is now my forever lady crush."

While speaking with Pattie about the other side of songwriting, Taylor opened up about her own songwriting, calling it the "purest" part of her job.

“There are definitely moments when it’s like this cloud of an idea comes and just lands in front of your face, and you reach up and grab it... A lot of songwriting is things you learn, structure, and cultivating that skill, and knowing how to craft a song.”

But as much as songwriting is a craft that Taylor has worked at, she still has those “mystical, magical moments, inexplicable moments, when an idea that is fully formed just pops into your head.”

Taylor also admitted that the rest of her life and career can get "complicated."

“It can get complicated on every other level, but the songwriting is still the same uncomplicated process it was when I was 12 years old writing songs in my room.”

Yep, that's the Taylor we'll always know. 12 years old, writing songs in her bedroom about boys she knew from school.

As far as who in Taylor's life she ends up writing about, she admitted that some people are more inspiring to her than others, and it's not for any particular reason. Not everyone in her life gets a song written about them.

“There have been people I’ve spent a lot of time with who I just couldn’t write about. It’s just that some people come into your life and they have this effect on you.”

So, hey, if people think they're automatically going to end up in a song because they spend some time with Taylor herself... then again.

I know we basically just got new music from Taylor... but I'm already excited for the next album!
