For the first time in over a century, there's a new ocean on the map thanks to our friends at National Geographic!

The organization announced that it will officially recognize the body of water surrounding the Antarctic as the Southern Ocean, which will make it the fifth ocean next to the Arctic, Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific.

According to one of the National Geographic Society's geographers, the Southern Ocean has long been recognized by scientists, but it wasn't until now that they officially recognized it.

The area is slightly bigger than twice the size of the U.S. and the recognition finally happened because of conservation efforts surround the Southern Ocean due to its decrease in species because of fishing and climate change.

Just get ready to know there's FIVE oceans from now on in case your kids or friend's kids ever ask you!
