Bob has led business and editorial teams at top media brands. As president of The Economist from 2020 to 2024, Bob ran the newspaper’s global consumer business, with a focus on subscription growth, product innovation, and new digital offerings. Prior to that, he worked at The Atlantic for 11 years, driving the transformation of the print monthly into a digital business. He split that time between commercial and editorial, serving as president of The Atlantic for five years and, before that, as editor of Atlantic Digital, where he grew audience on TheAtlantic.com tenfold from 2009 to 2014. Earlier in his career, he was the executive editor at Wired magazine and the White House correspondent and Supreme Court correspondent at Newsweek.
Over the years, Bob has overseen teams that won five National Magazine Awards. He earned the American Bar Association’s Silver Gavel Award for his coverage of the Supreme Court. In 2018, Advertising Age named him Publishing Executive of the Year. A graduate of Stanford, Bob has a master’s degree from Yale Law School. A longtime Marylander, he has sat on several journalism boards and currently serves as a director of the Capital Area Food Bank.
