It's crazy to think that it's been two years since the deadly helicopter crash that took the lives of Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gigi & seven other passengers.
On January 26, 2022, the two year anniversary of their death, sculptor Dan Medina arrived to the site of the crash in Calabasas, California with a bronze statue he sculpted of Kobe & Gigi. The focal point is the father-daughter duo with Kobe's arm around Gigi and underneath lists the names of all of the victims.
In an interview with TMZ, Medina shared that he created the 160lb statue on his own accord and when asked why, he said he had visited the site recently and all that was there were dried up flowers. He believed they deserved more. The statue's placement was only temporary and Medina transported it up the mountain himself, including taking it down at sunset. He hopes that it can become a permanent installation but in the mean time he intends to bring it to the crash site on every anniversary and on Kobe's birthday, August 23.
