Justice is being served.

The man responsible for taking 5 lives at the Capital Gazette's office in June 2018 will be spending the rest of his life in prison. On Tuesday, September 28, Anne Arundel County Judge Michael Wachs sentenced Jarrod Ramos, 41, to more than 5 life sentences without the possibility of parole...one for every innocent life he took.

Two and a half years ago, Ramos opened fire at the newspaper's headquarters in Annapolis, MD and killed Wendi Winters, John McNamera, Gerald Fischman, Rob Hiaasen and Rebecca Smith. It was reported that he "acted out of revenge" because the Capital Gazette shared a story about his misdemeanor charge of harassing a former high school classmate in 2011 (shared by WUSA9).

Ramos pleaded guilty but not criminally responsible in 2019 under Maryland's version of an insanity defense and his case was then continually delayed due to a mix of legal reasons and the coronavirus pandemic.
