There's an App that Tracks the Brood X Cicadas

There really is an app for everything these days.

Sure we've been all sharing photos of the cicada takeover on our own social media pages, but researchers have created the Cicada Safari app where users can upload their photos or 10-second videos of the periodical cicadas (Brood X). Once the media is verified, they'll be added a live map.

One of the primary benefits from the app is identifying pattern changes in the bugs' activity.

Dr. Gene Kritsky, dean of behavioral and natural sciences at Mount St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, says that the data they are collecting from the app is "gratifying" and their goal is 50,000 photos/videos of the bugs that have seemingly taken over our lives.
