Burger King Causes Stir on International Women's Day with Tweet

This was a whopper of a tweet to come from such a major brand account to acknowledge International Women's Day.

Burger King's UK Twitter account went viral this morning by tweeting out "women belong in the kitchen." Kind of jarring to read in 2021, right?

They then followed up their original statement with the fact that only 20% of chefs in the UK are women and that they're "on a mission to change the gender ratio in the restaurant industry by empowering female employees with the opportunity to pursue a culinary career." Their mission includes the launch of a new scholarship program to help their female employees progress in the culinary field.

Twitter users have their fair share of opinions on the tweet with replies like "I'm never eating here again" and "don't use sexism as clickbait," but Burger King is standing by their decision of people calling the tweet "trash" by saying "What belongs in the trash is lack of female representation in our industry, that's why we've created a scholarship to do something about it."
