Yungblud Reveals What Makes His Kind Of Punk Music Different Than Others

Yungblud is no stranger to feeling misunderstood — it's something he's dealt with his whole life — but he's grateful to now have a platform to express his thoughts and find like-minded people to form a community. However, the 20-year-old also acknowledges that some of those misconceptions stem from a disconnect between his generation and those that came before.

“The best one I got is ‘Yungblud is just a mouth, a big fat mouth’,” he told NME. “It’s just so funny because people do look at me like that. The biggest misunderstanding about me is that I’m just a bratty, gobby, idiot. It’s almost a misunderstanding about our generation – because we are so intelligent. We know what we want, we know what we stand for, we know what we have to say, we know how we feel about things and we’re not afraid to express that."

“The statement of [my album] 21st Century Liability is that maybe we’re not just gobby brats. Maybe if you listen to us, you might actually be surprised. Yeah, we’re young, but we have access to so much information," he added. "That’s what makes us different to any generation that’s come before us.”

The young English rocker also thinks that's what sets him apart from the punk rock greats that came before him. “Someone asked me the other day, ‘What’s the difference between your kind of punk and The Sex Pistols or The Clash?’" he explained. "I had to look into the second shelf at the back of my head to answer that. We have access to so much more information. We have a platform that we can shout from so instantaneously. We know what we’re talking about – more than anyone else.”

Yungblud is gearing up to bring his misunderstood brand of punk rock to the States this summer. Check out a full list of tour dates here.
