New Fitness Trend: “Prosecco Pilates”

People are trying to stay active during lockdown and with gyms and fitness classes closed, they’re trying new ways to workout. Fitness instructor Kelly Ravenscroft teaches Pilates online and along with her regular classes, she also leads one called “Prosecco Pilates,” where you get a good core workout while sipping a glass of bubbly.

The boozy workout may seem like an unusual combo, but Ravenscroft says it helps improve flexibility, muscle strength and balance. She says doing the exercises with a glass in hand is particularly effective to help tone abdominal muscles, the lower back and the booty. The instructor from England teaches moves like the “superman” technique, where you extend one arm forward and the opposite leg back while balancing the glass in one hand and trying not to spill it.

Lots of people are looking for ways to unwind and Ravenscroft says these exercises are not only a great workout, but they help with relaxation, too. She says, “My clients are telling me they are doing more classes than ever.” And the Prosecco may have something to do with that.
