A Third of Millennials Say Social Media Made Their Life Worse

As millennials, we’ve seen social media go from Friendster and MySpace to what it is today, and our relationship with it is complicated, at best.

According to a new survey, 70% of people say social media has improved their life. Which would be great if there wasn’t the flip side of things where 1 in 3 millennials said social media has worsened their lives.Because PS? That was the highest number reported for any generation.

And the survey broke things down even further. It found the people most likely to hate social media are unmarried female millennial Democrats, from the Midwest with college credit, but no degrees.Best Tinder profile bio ever right?

But even though a third of us think Facebook is the devil, we’re not ready to let it go. When given the option to live in a society with no tweets, hashtags, or selfies, three out of five of respondents said no thanks.Think about it, If we didn’t have social media, where would people go to listen to us complain about social media?

Other interesting findings:

  • Republicans were the most likely to say they'd prefer a world without social media.
  • Nearly 3 in 4 married couples reported greater life satisfaction because of social media. That’s higher than singles and unmarried couples.
