Avoiding Extra Holiday Pounds Is As Easy As Stepping On A Scale

There’s a reason why Santa is so thic. The holiday season is a minefield for anyone counting calories. Every day is like a Wonka factory tour with cookies and candy everywhere you look.

But if you’re not looking to start the New Year by moving your belt back one loop, science has one simple trick you need to follow. Researchers say that taking a few minutes each day to step on the scale may be all it takes to keep off the extra pounds this holiday season.

  • The study had two groups: one that looked at the scale every day, and another that didn’t look at one at all. When the holidays were over, they were shocked to find the scale group not only maintained weight, but even lost some. Meanwhile, the group that didn’t check their LBs went nuts with the treats and gained weight.
  • The researchers think seeing their weight fluctuations changed the scale group’s habits. “Maybe they exercise a little bit more the next day or they watch what they’re eating more carefully,” comments study author Jamie Cooper.

So if you want to avoid the January gym rush, keep yourself accountable! And apologies to anyone that has a scale on their Christmas list. Maybe next year.
