What Millennials ‘Micro-Cation’ Trend Says About Our Work-Life Balance

Time is money and as a generation, we don’t have either. This is why when we do have some time off from work, it’s short and sweet, and we try to ring every last drop of fun out of our time out of the office.

A global collection of over 750 hotels and resorts just released their 2020 travel trend report and found "time-poor millennial executives ... are replacing longer, more traditional vacations with shorter getaways."

This miniature work escapes have been dubbed "micro-cations" and they’re defined as leisure trips "consisting of less than four nights."The perfect amount of time to add a pic to your Instagram story, and then go get back on a plane to go home. Yay!

Why are Millennials opting to shrink our vacays? It’s mostly because we just can’t stop working. A recent study found early half of employees who get paid time off don't use all of their days, and more than half are still answering emails, and working while they're technically "away."We’ve got Robin Williams at the beginning of Hook vibes.

Another reason we’re taking micro-cations is it lets us save money and do multiple trips in a year. We’re all about quantity, not quality. Doing these four days or fewer getaways lets us have the most experiences possible, without taking a longer, and potentially more expensive trip. Why go on a week-long African Safari when you could do a weekend at an Airbnb on the West Coast, and crash on your college friend’s couch on the East Coast the next month?
