Americans Think People Don't Drive Safely During Winter

With the first big winter storm under our belt, there’s plenty of talk about driving in seasonal conditions. Discount Tire decided to see what people think, and the results of their poll are eye opening. A full 91-percent of people don’t have faith in other drivers when the temps drop and roads get slick.

Funny thing is, 64-percent are confident in their skills. We were happy to see that 59-percent owned up to not being so sure about their abilities. What else did the survey show? Here’s the skinny:

  • 90-percent are confident driving in rain
  • 76-percent feel safe driving in sleet or snow
  • Only 55-percent can handle ice
  • 48-percent avoid running errands in winter weather
  • 22-percent have been in winter weather accidents

Discount Tire schools us about when to buy snow tires. “At 45 degrees and below, all-season tires start to lose traction and grip on the road – that’s when we recommend using winter tires.” Taking extra precautions will also help you get through the winter driving season.
