In a personal statement released to his social media accounts, Jack Hanna's family has announced that the wildlife advocate has been diagnosed with dementia, now believed to be Alzheimer's disease.
The reveal in the letter that his condition has unfortunately "progressed much faster in the last few months" and that he is no longer able to participate in a public lifestyle.
"While dad's health has deteriorated quickly, we can assure you that his great sense of humor continues to shine through. And yes - he still wears his khakis at home," the family shared.
Hanna is the former Executive Director of Ohio's Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. He held that role until 1992 and remained a spokesperson for the zoo until his retirement last June. The family says that they have "great appreciation" still for the zoo and that they will continue to support their dedication to conservation efforts.
